Papa Ray has a deep connection and relationship to not only New Orleans, but to EUCLID RECORDS - owned by Joe Schwab, a former employee of Vintage Vinyl. We are also visiting another stellar independent shop - DOMINO SOUND RECORD SHACK. Each unique, each with their own style, yet fitting perfectly and reflecting the culture of The Big Easy. The audience will be pleasantly surprised with some NOLA's music veterans that have seen it all - and in New Orleans, THAT SAYS MULTITUDES!
Papa Ray goes to Cincinnati and meets with Darren Blaise, owner of Ohio's outstanding record shop, SHAKE IT RECORDS, where every genre of music is represented, and it's often so busy, you have to squeeze by customers drawn to the city's premier music outlet. Not far from Cincinnati is Loveland, Ohio - the home of PLAID ROOM RECORDS - home of the impressive COALMINE label. Then the Roadshow travels to Cleveland to visit GOTTA GROOVE - a state-of-the-art vinyl record pressing plant.
More than any other Texas town, Austin is the city most identified with music. From Willie Nelson to Stevie Ray Vaughan, and the home of the South by Southwest Music Festival and Conference. It has the most vibrant indie music scene, and also happens to be its state capital. It's dynamic, homegrown music scene is supported by a vibrant presence of indie record stores - such as END OF AN EAR and WATERLOO MUSIC - which is perhaps the great state of Texas' most successful record store. Wait until you hear the stories about when Nirvana played an instore, and then when Norah Jones brought her Mom and her piano teacher to her very first instore! AMAZING STORIES!
The hipster city of Portland, Oregon is the home of no less than twenty independent record shops. The unquestionable leader is Terry Currier's long-running MUSIC MILLENIUM. A sprawling authoritative garden of musical delights. We're also going to visit several newer stores such as LANDFILL RESCUE UNIT and EXILED RECORDS.
By the early 1970's, Papa Ray was a fan of Jamaica's contribution to world music and Reggae. But, he found out Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff were only two examples of the talent this tiny island in the Caribbean had to offer. Having released and curated Reggae music on his store's label and for the international Trojan imprint, our crew happily goes to Jamaica to check out the vibe and where things are going in the home of Ska, Roots Reggae, and Dancehall.
The Vinyl Roadshow checks out the vibrant independent record store scene in the UK. From London to Glasgow, from Manchester to Soho, the Roadshow witnesses first-hand the astounding music store culture of Great Britain, while following an American band with a devoted SRO following in the UK, as well as Europe - VINTAGE TROUBLE
